Bus Rapid Transit, Red Line, University Road, Karachi

Red Line is another Mass transit proposed in Karachi Master Plan 2020. Red Line Bus Rapid Transit service is proposed on University Road connecting Safoora Chowrangi to M.A. Jinnah Road. University Road is one major arterial of Karachi and part of signal free corridor. Number of Government offices, universities and educational institutes located on this road making it educational hub of Karachi. Some of prominent traffic attracters on University Road includes: Karachi Metropolitan Corporation Headquarter, Sui Southern Gas Company Headquarter, Water Board Head Office, University of Karachi, NED University of Engineering and Technology, Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology, Usman Institute, Dawood Engineering University, Suparco Headquarter, Dow University Hospital etc. Presence of these institutions and many others ranked University Road as one of the most person trip attracting zone of Karachi and leading contender for construction of mass transit line.

Think Transportation as a sub consultant of Institute of Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) executed traffic studies this Project. In this Project Think Transportation was responsible for Traffic Surveys including traffic volume count surveys, Travel Speed and Delay Surveys, fare structure surveys, Road User Interview Surveys, Bus Route Confirmatory Surveys, Boarding and Alighting Surveys, Occupancy Surveys, Frequency Surveys, Social Surveys, Passenger Transfer Surveys etc., and Traffic Simulation.
