The N-5 is the longest and oldest national highway in Pakistan. Segment of N5 between Karachi and Thatta serves as an important roadway connecting Karachi and Baluchistan to Southern part of Sindh through Makli, Sajawal and Badin. The Southern part of Sindh has historical and economical value, the Makli graveyard is the world largest of its kind in the world, the Southern part’s districts produce huge amount of Sunflower, Barely, Masoor, Maize, Rapeseed & Mustard, Bajra and Rice. These highly valued crops earn substantial foreign exchange for the country.
China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) increases the importance of coastal area of Sindh due to their favorable land forms for port construction, agriculture and huge power generation potential in the southern part of Sindh. Moreover, wind power generation projects are initiated near Jhampir and Nooriabad by public and private sector.
Comprehensive traffic study was conducted to determine traffic demand and audit the current toll collection procedure of National Highway 5.
